A little diagramming started off 5th grade this morning. Here's the thing... If you read the trending articles on education, they almost all concur that diagramming sentences is outdated and worthless. Many say traditional grammar instruction is as well! I disagree and it's not because I'm an English teacher! Learning the fundamentals of our first language (English) has produced 3 seriously strong communicators. There are other factors as well, but my daughters are well versed in correctly formed sentences. In addition to that, learning second languages with @talkboxmom has been a breeze. They are grasping foreign language grammar structure without any formal instruction as we are using a fully immersive program. I strongly advocate for full grammar instruction in your homeschool. If your kids are traditionally schooled but not getting a strong grammar base, do like my dad did and teach it to them yourself! He taught me more grammar than any of my teachers ever did. Thank you dad!
