Peek at Our Week: January 8-12
We had an interesting thing happen that has dramatically improved our math time. My husband and I have always felt Rose’s so-called struggle in math was because it wasn’t something that came fast and easy. She understands the concepts and can work out the problems, but because it felt tedious to her, she thought she was not strong in this area. After testing with the Woodcock-Johnson test last week where she tested a full grade-level above her current work. This not only shocked her, it gave her a boost of confidence like I have never seen! Not only was math faster than ever before, she never once complained and even worked ahead!

Beth decided to study about Australia. I have a fabulous unit study from Amanda Bennett and was all set! Then the internet wouldn’t work. Then the printer wouldn’t work. Then both were fixed and the links wouldn’t work! No worries though, I pulled off several atlases and a couple of other resources and we dove right in. She loved it! Sometimes our plans don’t pan out, but we can still have fun learning. It was a great lesson for both of us in being flexible.
So that was our week! Honestly, plans were derailed and very little went as I had imagined between illness and internet woes and printer issues. I could have griped and grumbled and let the days be ruined. Instead, I chose to just go with it, and our week was lovely in an unplanned kind of way.
How was your week?

Preserving Memories: Catching Up…
Fabulous Last-Minute Stocking Stuffer Idea for the Little Artist in Your House!
When you are off school for lots of days in a row sometimes you need a little help keeping the kids entertained. I only wish I had these years ago when we would constantly find dried out markers around the school-room because of forgetting the caps!
I LOVE their drawings! Rose and Grace chose a Christmas picture and Beth drew a cabin on a hill. So beautiful and see how bold these color are? This is on a slightly green tinted background paper and except for the areas not colored on you wouldn’t know it! Beth’s paper is the same as the other girls.
These markers are high quality, but affordably priced. Because of the won’t-dry-out guarantee it’s also an excellent investment!
Don’t miss your opportunity to get these fabulous markers!

How Adventures in Odyssey Helped us Survive a Week in the Hospital
Presperving Memories: November 27-December 2
These are a few random pages I’ve scrapped. The first is from 2009 in the spring picking berries with my oldest two girls, the next 2013 for Grace’s 4th birthday and the third 2009 from Grace’s first Christmas. I keep them organized by year so I can jump around! Sometimes I do that because I get a new kit I really want to use for something particular, or I have a specific subject for one of the gals I work for as a Creative Team member.
When Life Gets Crazy and We Want to Know the "Why"
The first of November my daughter came down with a fever. We had no idea on that evening this would be anything more than just a typical kid illness. After several trips to our amazing pediatrician over the next week we landed in the hospital for another week. At the end of it all we are left with very few answers, but very grateful hearts that she is steadily healing.
Time and time again the pediatric team and the numerous specialists we met with over the course of the week told us just how very sick she was, but how amazed they were she wasn’t worse, crediting our regular pediatrician for sending us to the hospital as well as the emergency room doctors for assessing the need for very specific tests which led to her early diagnosis. They began treatment with their working diagnosis before it was fully proven and within 12 hours we saw dramatic improvement. While we greatly value the wisdom and knowledge of every doctor we encountered, we credit Jesus our Healer for the speed with which she was diagnosed and treated.
