Adventures in Odyssey Club: Exclusive Content

Tomorrow is the first of September. That means…
a new exclusive Adventures in Odyssey Club episode!

The club episodes are not available for purchase as either CDs or digital downloads. They are a part of the Odyssey cannon, but have the freedom to explore the world of Odyssey without the confines of a collective set. Some of these have become our all-time favorites! Here are a few…

Walk This Way
Penny convinces Connie that the answer to her financial problems is as simple as being crowned Miss Odyssey.

There and Back Again (3 parts)
The Whittakers’ New Zealand vacation takes a dramatic turn after they bump into a friend from Odyssey.

Take Every Thought Captive
Mean girl Valerie Swanson visits a strange city that’s oddly familiar, yet unlike anything she’s ever experienced.

Un-Tech the Halls
The Parkers decide to unplug their gadgets and make family memories by searching for a Christmas tree.

All for the Guest
It’s a stressful sleepover when Penny’s parents and Wooton’s childhood butler come to visit on the same weekend.

Met His Match

Convinced that Whit is lonely, Penny and Olivia play Cupid in hopes of introducing him to the next Mrs. Whittaker.
These are all available with your monthly subscription to the Adventures in Odyssey Club! Sign up today to hear these and more!

NEW Adventures In Odyssey Album: Adventures in Odyssey Club

Tomorrow is Tuesday…and that means a new episode from More than Meets the Eye (Album 67) drops into the club!!!!

We are super excited to listen to this new album and because we have The Adventures in Odyssey Club we get to hear it first! If you want to be the first to hear the newest episodes sign up for a free trial and check it out!

My girls love that they can each have the app on their tablets. Quite often when we are working on something, like the major purging and reorganizing of our bookshelves, it helps the time go by faster. They take turns picking out episodes and work while they listen. They do this in their rooms as well.

In addition to the books and shelves, the girls also cleaned out their closets. Some of the episodes they like to listen to the most are the newest ones. They will listen to a new episode 3-4 times after its first aired!

If you are looking for a faith-filled way to fill your children’s entertainment, look no further than the Adventures in Odyssey Club! It’s a great investment!

Adventures in Odyssey Club: Camp Adventure!

Last year I was Grace’s counselor at camp and one of the things my co-counselor and I did as a fun treat a couple of nights was listen to Adventures in Odyssey! Since we have the Adventures in Odyssey Club it’s easy to take anywhere with you, even camp! Wifi and cell service there is pretty spotty, so I was really glad we have the opportunity to download episodes! This year I led worship for the elementary campers which meant I wasn’t in the same cabin as Grace. Instead we opted to make little goodie bags with some awesome stuff the folks at Adventures in Odyssey sent our way!

Each of the goodie bags included a signed poster, a frisbee, and this really awesome post-camp devotion! We also made sure to include information on how to sign up for the free trial of the Adventures in Odyssey Club. Several of the girls were familiar with this wonderful radio drama, but not all were.

Before we left for camp Grace created the goodie bags. It was a neat way for her to go ahead and start thinking about her new friends and how much fun they would have worshiping and having fun.

These 10 precious girls and their 2 counselors had a wonderful time. Grace gave them their gifts on the last night of camp. She was especially excited to share her love of Adventures in Odyssey with her new friends.

Make sure to share the adventure with your friends and family as well!

Bringing Comfort, Answering Questions with Adventures in Odyssey Club

Life can be hard sometimes. This week we are both sad and full of joy. My husband’s grandmother has gone to be with Jesus. While it is sad to not have her here, she was suffering with dementia for many years and the last several months have been very difficult. And so we rejoice in knowing she has seen her Savior face to face and is having a wonderful reunion with her husband and others who have gone before her. Our last visit with Gram was beautiful and full of sweet memories for all of us, especially the girls.

June 2016
Still, the concept of heaven and dealing with loss is not always easy for children. One of the blessings of a program like Adventures in Odyssey is they have dealt with a wide range of hard topics including death. While the follow episodes are not ones I would list among my go-to favorites, they are incredibly valuable in facing loss. I’ve also included 2 which deal with mental illness in this list. They have been excellent springboards for conversation with my children about some very hard things.

Whit creates and Imagination Station adventure about death. The results are unexpected, and everyone has to deal with the unforeseen aftermath.

Karen, a friend of Donna Barclay’s, battles cancer and both Donna and Connie learn how faith makes a difference.

While Whit and the gang are still trying to keep Novacom at bay, Connie deals with the loss of someone very dear to her.

Connie’s grandmother, a Christian, dies and her family finds out what it means to deal with death as a Christian. Her father must find a way to cope as a non-Christian.

The story of how Tom Riley’s son, Timmy, died is recounted by the person whose life he saved in the process.

A Lesson from Mike

Julie finds herself unexpectedly affected by the sudden and tragic death of a classmate she did not know very well.

Danny struggles with the idea of death and eternity after his mother has a miscarriage.

Connie receives devastating news and, with her friend’s support, learns how to trust God in the midst of deep grief.

Another hard topic Adventures in Odyssey covers is mental illness. This isn’t something we like to talk with our kids about, but it is a reality we must sometimes face. I appreciate the delicate way in which has led to some excellent conversations with our kids about depression and other mental illnesses.

We learn that Tom Riley’s wife, Agnes, has been struggling with mental illness for several years.
(I particularly appreciate this episode and the conversation Whit and Eugene have at the end about this very difficult topic.)

Tom Riley and Mandy try to decipher what is upsetting Agnes, Tom’s wife.

Celebrate Valentines Day with Adventures in Odyssey!

I love it when we have opportunity to share our joy of Adventures in Odyssey with our friends! Valentines Day is tomorrow and a great opportunity to share some sweet Valentines with others and even a free episode available for them to enjoy.

These beautiful Valentines feature a variety of characters and fun sentiments which would be typical to each character. The girls had a great time preparing these cards for their friends from their Wednesday Science class. Beth and Grace each prepared 12 cards and were so very excited to take them to class this morning!

These are a great addition to any Valentines celebration and you can get yours for free! Just click the picture below!

Adventures in Odyssey Club: Celebrating a New Year and a New Album!

There is a thrill that abounds in our home when a new album is coming to Adventures in Odyssey! We couldn’t wait for this album, Trial by Fire, knowing there would be answers to much of Buck Oliver’s mysterious past!

We weren’t disappointed, especially with the 3-part ending to the Mr. Skint and Buck Oliver story arch! If you haven’t heard how this all plays out, you need to go back to their introduction to the town of Odyssey. That would be one of our other favorite albums, The Green Ring Conspiracy

Next you will want to listen to The Ties that Bind. This brings Buck Oliver back to Odyssey and into the lives of Eugene and Katrina Meltzner in an unexpected way!

Buck is in several more episodes which are a lot of fun, but the most important to this particular story arc is Out of the Picture from Under the Surface

This will catch you up so you have a better background for what happens in The Long End Parts 1-3. This deals a lot with family history and heritage. It also deals with the idea of choosing right from wrong and can lead to some great conversations with your kids. Be aware that there are some subjects which may be a little harder for some kids such as the death of a parent, adoption, and kidnapping.

We had fun listening to each episode around our kitchen table during the lunch hour. We often do this when new episodes pop into the Adventures in Odyssey Club app, which is the first of ever month for the Adventure Club episodes and several weeks in a row twice a year for the albums. It’s so fun to have early access to these shows!

You can to by joining the club! It is a wonderful addition to your family entertainment for both kids and adults!

Adventures in Odyssey: Meaningful for Adults Too

While Adventures in Odyssey is great entertainment for the entire family and is geared towards children, it isn’t for children only. There are some audio dramas that my kids love and I do enjoy, but they do not hold as much meaning for me as an adult. Adventures in Odyssey helped me discover a most meaningful verse of Scripture that has seen me through many difficult times when it feels like the Lord isn’t listening.

This album is one of my favorites because of the themes of the stories, but specifically the episode A Glass Darkly has special meaning. In this show Trent DeWhite prays for God to help him with an opportunity he has to try out for a special children’s orchestra playing his cello. Everything seems to fall into place, until it doesn’t. Despite Trent’s good choices and prayer, he continues to be blocked from a good thing because of misunderstandings and false accusations. Even at the end of the episode Trent has no idea why the bad things happened to him that prevented him from being a part of the orchestra. In his discouragement he approaches Mr. Whitaker who reminds Trent that we can’t always see the full picture here on earth and we must trust the Lord is at work even when it feels like He isn’t listening. He reminds him of 1 Corinthians 13:12…

For now we <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-NASB-28678V" data-link="(V)” style=”box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 22px; position: relative; top: 0px; vertical-align: top;”>see in a mirror dimly, but then <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-NASB-28678W" data-link="(W)” style=”box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 22px; position: relative; top: 0px; vertical-align: top;”>face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-NASB-28678X" data-link="(X)” style=”box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 22px; position: relative; top: 0px; vertical-align: top;”>have been fully known. (NASB)

The most wonderful part of this episode is the closing scene. The listeners get a glimpse of events happening which Trent never learns. We see the hand of God even though he doesn’t. It is tempting to feel difficult circumstances are unfair, but who are we to question God’s ways? There are somethings things happening behind the scenes we will never know, and if He does show us, it is only by His goodness that it is revealed.

Christmas Day 2012 – I had surgery 3 days before Christmas to remove a benign tumor discovered in my intestine. This is one of the moments the Lord reminded me of this verse to encourage me.
This particular episode has encouraged me through surgeries, loss, and just all around bad days that seem to be no fault of my own. While I had read this verse over and over, the deeper truth was revealed to me through this episode. I’ve had the opportunity to remind my kids of this truth when they are having rough days and trials. Most importantly, this verse has become a part of my testimony I share whenever I have the opportunity.

Adventures in Odyssey: Monthly Joy!

This month’s exclusive Adventure Club episode featured Trail Life! My girls loved this episode, but they love every episode with Jay Smouse! He’s one of my husband’s favorites as well. After their third time hearing the episode Rose said, “That sounds like such a neat thing! I wish Trail Life was for girls too.” I was really excited to tell her all about American Heritage Girls! Not only that, one of our good friends leads a local group! We have plans to try it out in September and the girls are completely excited. I am too, especially since I know the girls will already have friends there and they can do this all together. What a fun adventure we are beginning all thanks to The Adventures in Odyssey Club

This is the next big news our crew can not wait to get their hands on! We adore all things Odyssey and this new series about Whit as a kid has us completely on the edge of our seats! We can’t wait to get our hands on this. I would like to say we will read this aloud together, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to get snagged and read within a few days for each person. They really can’t wait to give it a try!

We finished listening to all the episodes in the newest album thanks to the Adventures in Odyssey Club! We enjoyed them all and especially the episode with Morrie Rydell! We are fans of Atticus Shaffer, the actor who voices Morrie, and we have been anxiously awaiting more information about him and what he is up to exactly! We all have our theories because we don’t really know very much about this character.
The first day of each month is always a day of great anticipation because of the new monthly episode! I expect that will be the first thing I’m asked in the morning…”Can we listen to the new episode?!?!?” And of course, I will say, “Yes!”

Traveling Made Easy with Adventures in Odyssey!

Every road trip we takes starts out about the same. We pile in, pray for our trip, and turn on Adventures in Odyssey! We used to travel with our entire case of every Adventures in Odyssey set, but now with the Adventures in Odyssey Club we will usually load on several episodes and listen that way. It’s also nice at bedtime when we are away. The girls are always excited and sometimes have a hard time settling in to sleep. Not to mention the grown ups stay up late playing games, which aren’t always so quiet! This helps them not mind going to bed before the rest of us do.

On this trip we were very excited to get to hear the beginning of the newly released episodes! We left on a Thursday and returned on a Thursday which is release day for the newest episodes. If you haven’t had a chance to try out the club this is a great time because you will get to hear the newest episodes before anyone else!
Even when the girls fall asleep (2 out of three here!) my husband and I still enjoy listening to Adventures in Odyssey. It’s a great way to be entertained and we didn’t even bring a DVD player for the 13 hour drive this time! Our favorites are the sagas… Novacom, Dr. Blackguard, The Green Ring Conspiracy, etc. This time we were listening to the Blackguard episodes. So fun every time!
What is your favorite Adventures in Odyssey for a road trip?

Summer Camp: Adventures in Odyssey Club

Last week our entire family went to summer camp! Our district in the Christian and Missionary Alliance hosts camp for all ages the same week. It was really great for us all to be able to be away together even though we didn’t see much of each other!

These were my “kids” for the week! You see Grace in the middle and 8 other sweet little girls. It’s been a looooooong time since I was a camp counselor. I played this role off and on from when I was in 8th grade thru just before we had the girls. It’s a role I know well, but honestly not one of my favorite parts of ministry. I love the kids, but it is not easy for me in the way many of my other ministry roles are.
The Lord taught me so very much about serving outside of my comfort zone. I’m grateful for the time I had with these precious kids and look forward to seeing many of them again!
My co-counselor was a pro and has been doing this for the last several years. She is also a homeschool mom and we connected making a lasting friendship! She thought of bringing everything. What a blessing she was to us all! Two of my favorite things she brought were a portable Bluetooth speaker and a faux fire. The girls adored the fire that she turned on each night and one evening we surprised the girls with listening to the very first episode of Adventures in Odyssey, Whit’s Flop.
Our faux fire was a sweet little nightlight!
I chose this particular episode because about half of the girls were unfamiliar with the show and it is of course a great introduction to Whit’s End! Some of these kids came from some difficult situations back home and it was so nice to give them a safe and peaceful space for the week. They loved listening to the story, even though quite a few fell asleep before it was over! The next day they begged for more.
Having the Adventures in Odyssey Club app on my phone made it ideal for camp because I didn’t have to lug our CD collection or a CD player with us! Whether you are just hanging out around the house or are traveling this summer, it’s a great time to join the Adventures in Odyssey Club! Your kids will be listening to quality entertainment without eyes glued to the screen!
