Adventures in Odyssey: Shows to Make You Smile!

The newest release from AiO!

When my girls are choosing an AiO to listen too they usually like to pick it based on a theme…

“Something Bible!”
“Something from history!”
“An adventure!”

or most often…

“Something funny!”

One of the great aspects of AiO is the great comedic writing and timing! We know there are a lot of funny moments that happen which are scripted, but there are also some great ad lib moments as well! Here are our favorite always-good-for-a-laugh characters.

Rose: Wooton & Bart
Beth: Penny & Wooton
Grace: Connie
Me: Bernard & Eugene (together)
My husband: Jay
Some of our other funny character favorites are Bernard, Jimmy, Trent, the Parkers, and the Washingtons.
Here are our top 5 funny go-to episodes!
1. Episode 467 – Broken Window
When a window gets broken at Whit’s End, Whit puts Rodney, Sarah Prachett, and Alex on trial to see where the responsibility for fixing the window will fall.
2. Episode 466 – Snow Day
When school is cancelled due to snow, Alex Jefferson accepts a job to deliver cookies to his grandmother. On the way, he must endure many trials and tribulations.
3. Episodes 826-827 – Find a Penny (Parts 1 & 2)
Wooton Bassett returns to Odyssey from his honeymoon with two problems — Penny is missing and he’s lost his memory!
4. Episode 700 – How to Sink a Sub
When Katrina becomes their substitute teacher, Jay and Valerie rouse the class to revolt, even persuading Olivia to help with a plan to get Katrina fired.
5. Episode 586 – A Cheater Cheated
Bart Rathbone seeks out Whit’s business advice after deciding he wants to make the Electric Palace a “respectable establishment.”

The wonderful thing about the Adventure Club is that you get access to ALL of these episodes and more! There are so many other wonderful funny shows that we really had a hard time narrowing it down! Do you have a favorite, always-makes-you-laugh episode? I’d love to hear which one!

Adventures in Odyssey Club: Did You Know?

One of the features of the B-TV Episodes was called Did You Know? The girls always thought this was particularly interesting and fun parts of the episode so I thought I’d do my own Did You Know? feature about the Adventure Club!
Did You Know…

You will have access to over 800 episodes on demand?

In addition to all of the Adventures in Odyssey dramas there are also featured podcasts, episodes of The Last Chance Detectives, Radio Theater episodes, and loads of behind-the scenes content!

Did You Know…

You will receive a subscription to Clubhouse Magazine?

My girls have loved this magazine! It’s family-friendly content has been around a while, but stays relevant to today’s generation. There are also tons of Adventures in Odyssey features for the avid fan!
Did You Know…

You will have access to all of the Adventures in Odyssey Cartoons?

These were first released in the 90s by Focus on the Family. We have had a lot of fun watching them with the girls and access to these has been a great way to up our AIO knowledge, especially when we play Answer That!, a trivia board game we bought several years ago.
Did You Know…

You can read Devotions for you and your family to enjoy every day?
Each devotion pairs with one of the episodes which can be easily accessed right with there! Along with a Scripture to read and discussion questions you will really spice up your family devotion time.
Did You Know…

You will be the first to hear the newest episodes before they air on the radio?
Whether you are anxiously awaiting the newest monthly Adventure Club episode or can’t wait for the newest set in the series, Club members are the first to hear it all!

We are such big fans of this series. My girls listen to 1-3 episodes every night. We make sure to have plenty of episodes loaded onto our phones before we leave on a trip and my husband even rigged up a way to plug our phone into the speaker system of the car since it’s old school without bluetooth. We discuss our favorite episodes and use them as springboards for hard talks we sometimes need to have. AIO is such a big part of our lives and the Adventure Club is an amazing way to integrate it wherever we are!

Odyssey Adventure Club: Why You Should Join!

We've Got Your Kids Covered | Focus on the Family

1. It’s great for road trips!
Since you can download episodes to the app you don’t even need wifi! It also entertains those who may get car sick and can’t handle doing much while traveling.

2. You can binge listen to your favorite story arcs!

We love listening to the Blackguard and Novacom story arcs. The Green Ring Conspiracy is another close favorite!

3. Saves space!
Collecting the entire Adventures in Odyssey collection is a worthy goal, but boy the space those CDs would take. This is instant gratification at its best and no extra space required.

4. Your kids will adore you!
We gave our nieces and nephews a subscription for Christmas and they were jumping up and down with joy! They were so excited to have the opportunity to listen to any episode they wanted.
5. Everyone can listen to something different!
Our kids don’t have to take turns picking a favorite episode anymore. They can each listen to their favorites on different devices.

6. Soundtracks!!!
I’m a huge fan of soundtrack music and now the soundtrack to many of the episodes are available through the app.

7. Excellent bedtime routine!
Our girls listen every night while falling asleep. It’s a great way to start the night off right.

8. Easy to search!
We often use the search function to find a particular episode we want to find quickly.

9. Holiday themes!
Some of our favorite holiday traditions throughout the year are to find the corresponding Adventures in Odyssey episodes. We love the ones for St. Patrick’s Day, Valentines Day, Thanksgiving, and of course the many Christmas episodes.

10. Historical Episodes!
From Adam and Eve to American History you can find lots of historical episodes. This is great for homeschoolers when you are studying a particular time in history.

Adventures in Odyssey Club Updates!

Are you a part of the Adventures in Odyssey Club??? If not, you need to give it a try! My daughters love being a part of the club! They usually listen to 2-3 episodes a day between their free time and bedtime. I don’t mind one bit! They are being entertained and absorbing solid biblical teaching at the same time. They especially love the monthly stories which often deal with cultures around the world.
For Christmas we gave our nieces and nephews subscriptions to the club! They were sooooo excited and couldn’t believe they would be able to have Adventures in Odyssey on their own tablets!

We love this crew of kids soooo much. We have often given them individual CD sets, but this year we gave them EVERYTHING Odyssey has to offer!
My girls also absolutely love to read the Adventures in Odyssey books! They were thrilled to hear about this brand new series coming soon!
We can’t wait to get our hands on this!

How fun is this??? Instead of just buying cards from the store your kids can print and give these awesome Adventures in Odyssey Valentines Day cards and share the love of God with their friends this Valentine’s Day! Another fun thing you can do is provide a membership for the kids in your life this Valentine’s Day. I like this much better than handing out chocolate.

How Adventures in Odyssey Helped us Survive a Week in the Hospital

So we had a really difficult time in November with one of my girls. We were in the hospital for seven days and some of the reason is still a mystery.
If you have ever spent time in the hospital you can agree that no matter how wonderful the care you receive, it’s not a place anyone would choose to be. That was definitely the case for us. We are beyond grateful to the Lord for His provision of incredible medical care, but surviving that week was not easy, especially for my sweet daughter. We had lots of visitors and wonderful friends who brought her coloring books, games, movies, and more. Although she appreciated all of these, there was one thing which helped bring her the distraction and comfort she needed more than anything:
Adventures in Odyssey
https://www.oaclub.org/

I grew up listening to Adventures in Odyssey and my girls have listened to this fabulous series since they were in the womb! Nearly every night they listen to at least one episode, sometimes more than one.

While we were in the hospital my girl would listen to these stories over and over again and they gave her comfort while she fell asleep, when she had her blood drawn multiple times a day, and when she needed to be distracted from all the poking and prodding.

They were my comfort as well. I can quote many episodes almost word for word now. Having these stories to distract my worried mind in the middle of the night was an incredible blessing.

Streaming access within the hospital made finding just the right episode fast and easy. If you know a child who is not feeling well this holiday, whether at home or in the hospital, consider a gift of the Adventures in Odyssey Club. I can tell you from experience it will bring healing of the soul for the family who listens.

Captain Absolutely from Focus on the Family: A TOS Crew Review

Focus On The Family We are Adventures in Odyssey super-fans! I began listening to this wonderful series when I was a kid with my dad in the afternoons. When we got married I introduced my husband to the series and we began to collect the CD sets. Now our kids are huge fans and we listen to 2 or 3 episodes every day and often at night at bedtime. One of our absolute favorite characters is Wooton Bassett. He is both a mailman and comic book author. One of his main series is Captain Absolutely who defends truth, justice, and lots more truth! When I told the girls we were going to be reviewing an actual Captain Absolutely comic from Focus On The Family there were cheers and dancing all around!  Captain Absolutely  When this amazing comic arrived in the mail we had to make a plan as to who would read it first. Beth ended up with the privilege, but her sisters were looking over her shoulder! The comic itself is incredibly high quality. The sturdy cover and pages will enable your kids to read this over and over, which I think they will be doing because mine have! The combination of humor, adventure, and just plain fun make this already a well-read book in our house!

We have a few comics, but the girls pretty much stay to very mild ones, not action and adventure and definitely not super heroes. We are extremely cautious with what they view and read. So many modern comics have scantily clad characters and messages we don’t want our kids to absorb yet. This is a spectacular alternative to those! The illustrations are stunning and completely appropriate in every way. The bad guys do attack and have evil powers, but it is done in a very mild and as non-violently as possible in a super hero story. The story of how Captain Absolutely came to be is also included and I like the science-type way he gained his super abilities, but I won’t tell you how because I don’t want to spoil it!

All that being said, there is one thing which stands above the rest in this comic and that is the biblical world-view. It is not presented in a cheesy way, but just as part of who Captain Absolutely is. He is not perfect, but he always looks back to the Word of God for answers. What a wonderful lesson to teach my girls! Superhero stories are unrealistic, but the example of seeking the Scripture for answers and most importantly truth is exactly what I want my girls to learn. Anytime I can give them fictional heroes who emulate these values I’m totally on board. Here is what my girls had to say:
Rose (11): I loved that at the very end Wooton Bassett is in it. I also like that there are Bible verses in it. Beth (9): I liked that it had Bible verses and that it points things out to you. It explains things in the story so you understand. Grace (7): I like that it is from Adventures in Odyssey and I like all the characters!Whether you are already an Adventures in Odyssey fan as we are or if this is the first you’ve heard of it, you will want to take a look at this new title. You won’t be disappointed! Take a look at what my Crewmates had to say!Captain Absolutely {Focus On The Family Review}Crew Disclaimer
