Week in Review: February 4-8

Wouldn’t you know it? One fabulously healthy week and then we’re back with colds again! My little Grace came down sick first, mid-week it was Beth’s turn, and last night Rose started coughing and sniffling. It’s just part of life I suppose. I honestly thought homeschooling would keep at least some of the germs at bay. Then again it would mean we were isolating ourselves and that’s not going to happen!

I’ve had the chance to review Apologia’s Zoology 2 over the last few weeks and it has been great. Take some time to check out my review, then click on the link at the bottom to read some other reviews by my fellow TOS Crew Review bloggers! This is my first official review for the Crew and it has been so much fun! Look forward to some great reviews in the coming weeks for everything from a full pre-K (birth and up) curriculum to math to music!

I also have a giveaway for a fabulous manipulative for pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade! Click on the picture to see my review. Even if you don’t win the price for this manipulative packet is very reasonable and well worth it since it can be used over and over again!
And here is our week…
Little Hands to Heaven: Sick Week…ugh!
I’m really not thrilled to have been off schedule again, but what can you do? So we didn’t have a lot of school for Miss Grace, but we did have a lot of coughing, sniffling, and chilling out!
Poor baby felt really crummy…
By the end of the week she was feeling better enough for some fun! “Hey Mommy…I need a football. I’m a footballer!” Yes, that is the Armor of God…and a Redskins football!
Little Hearts for His Glory: Unit 18

Beth didn’t start feeling badly until the end of the week so we completed most of her work without too much trouble. She’s working on her Rod and Staff books here. I really love the newest books, G, H, and I. Beth also works in Thinking Skills 1 as recommended by Heart of Dakota, but I honestly haven’t liked it as much as these Rod and Staff books. She completed G and F in preschool and I plan on Grace doing the same, but not using Thinking Skills 1 with her.
I started using a new journal book I purchased during the last dollar sale at Scholastic. I love their dollar sales. The only area I wish HOD focused on more earlier is creative writing…probably because I am an English teacher! My girls love to write stories and be creative anyway so adding this in is not a chore for them. Beth drew a Penguin from directions and then finished a few sentences I love how she is learning to write in such an interesting way. Do you see the stick-figure girl? She felt the penguin needed an owner to take care of it, so she drew herself. Beth is our storyteller!
Here are Rose and Beth working oh so diligently in the morning sun!
Bigger Hearts for His Glory: Unit 19
Since I teach my girls all at the same time there are frequently times when it can be extremely distracting for Rose to focus on independent work, like math. When this is happening she will often ask if she can move to the kitchen table so she can focus. She doesn’t seem to mind if I suggest it either and she typically finished very quickly. We still are loving the simple style of Rod and Staff and Rose is genuinely mastering her addition facts this year. She is gaining confidence in math and it is wonderful to see!
I loved the poem we studied this week along with our unit about Lewis and Clark. Rose did too. She said it was her favorite so far this year. As an English teacher I love seeing her learn how to interpret and understand poetry and poetic language. She highlights the end of the stanzas in order to visually see the rhyming patterns. Rose has started writing her own poetry and was even accepted to be published in a poetry contest! I’m so proud of her!
We have also been studying Greek and Latin roots! You’ll hear more about these fabulous flash cards in a few weeks. Rose loves learning Greek. Her grandpa teaches Greek at a seminary and has taught her how to write her name in Greek. She can’t wait to show off her new knowledge to him!
So this was our week! While Heart of Dakota curriculum is incredibly easy to use because it is already laid out and planned with cohesive units for an entire year, I make a weekly checklist. I do include a few extras in our day, but not very many. This is mostly to make sure I don’t miss anything! I’m using a different guide for each of my girls and I feel that is the best for our family, but without my weekly checklist there is no way I’d remember every subject every day! So on Thursday or Friday (and sometimes Sunday night!) I sit down and fill out our grid. It only takes about 30 minutes…if I’m uninterrupted…and it is well worth the time I spend. The best part is my Hershey Kiss pencil…I love chocolate…sigh…
I hope you had a lovely week!

Week in Review: January 28 – February 1

We are finally…FINALLY…back to regular school around here! Christmas break lasted longer than expected. While we’ve done some basics and had a lot of fun with some unique field trips, I am incredibly grateful to be back to our Heart of Dakota curriculum. Now, without any more waiting, here is our week!

(I got a little picture happy. I’m just so excited to be back on routine!)

Little Hands to Heaven: Unit 12

This week we studied about Samuel. Grace enjoyed our finger play this week for the letter J which retold the story of Hannah and Samuel. This also taught her the days of the week in order which she learned very quickly!

Grace constantly asks how to spell words because she hears her sisters do this. She just writes some lines and has been happy with that. Until this week! She started copying letters when I wrote them down for her with good precision for her age. (Don’t you love Beth’s quirky face in the background?)

We did several Do-A-Dot pages for J as well. If you are unfamiliar with Do-A-Dot markers you should try them out! I bought mine with a coupon from a craft store to make them pretty inexpensive and all three of my girls love them! There are some really neat art projects you can do with these as well.

I also finished up making a few manipulatives. I found this idea on pinterest and it has been in the back of my mind for several months now. I pulled out some Easter eggs and my sweet Grace started working on matching lower case and upper case letters!

She still loves her workbooks from Rod and Staff. I can’t believe how much her tracing skills have improved! She takes more time now thinking about the answers and looks forward to doing a page every day. I can’t say enough good things about Rod and Staff! They showcase a simpler time and way of life. I love that about these books.
We are also very excited because Grace is now fully potty trained! It has been a long journey, but after 7 1/2 years of changing diapers this season is ending. We celebrated by going out for pizza (my husband usually makes it homemade).
Little Hearts for His Glory: Unit 17

Beth has benefited the most from our regular schedule. She tends to not know what to do with herself when we aren’t doing what we normally do and ends up pestering her sisters to pieces! We studied about Jesus’ appearances after the resurrection, His ascension, and Pentecost. She was much more focused on our history readings than she had been before Christmas. I think she’s starting to grow into her schoolwork more.
One of the highlights for Beth was practicing telling others about Jesus and how to become a Christ-follower. She practiced by telling her pony, who she happily reported later decided to become a Christian. My favorite way she described what it meant to be a Christian when I asked was, “It means that you grow closer to Jesus!”
I started a new activity this week called word ladders. Beth started with a three letter word and changed the word, one letter at a time based on the clues given. It was a great way to practice critical thinking and spelling.
She studied her Bible verse and did an excellent job memorizing it. The verse says, “Where two or more are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” My favorite part was when she said, “midist” instead of “midst” 🙂 So sweet!
For science we made raisins rise and fall which fascinated the girls! I love all of the fun experiments found in Little Hearts for His Glory. They are interactive and always relate back to the history we are studying.
These are the moments I love about homeschooling. Of course we have difficult days, weeks, and even months…but getting to see the joy of learning as it happens. What an amazing blessing!
Bigger Hearts for His Glory: Unit 18

Rose is always studious. She is very serious about her schoolwork and tries hard to do her best. She likes the hands on activities, but gets a little shy when I pull the camera out.
History is always fun for Rose. I’m excited because when she got to narration this week she did such a fabulous job! Narration is asking the student to retell what they just read in their own words. This is new to us both, so I wasn’t even sure how to teach this to her. She struggled to retell and especially in her own words until this week. She retold me the information about Robert Fulton, who is credited with creating the first successful steamboat. It was fun to listen! (Yes, that is an Angry Bird…and a Piggie)
We’re trying out a new Science curriculum which Rose really likes. This week we focused on sharks and manta rays. I’m not going to share too much…yet! The information is presented very scientifically, but with a clear understanding of God as Creator. The pictures are stunning! That’s all I’ll say for now because I’ll be reviewing this in another week and I can’t wait to tell all about how much we are loving it!
You can see on the board the facts listed about the creation of the steamboat. Rose found these all on her own from our history readings. She’s working on the third book from All About Spelling. Her spelling improves constantly with this program and she is able to think through how to spell at times when she isn’t working on spelling.
The last area of great improvement I’m seeing is Rose’s cursive. She writes 3-5 sentences about a journal prompt I write in her journal. She has been practicing cursive since last winter and I asked her to start writing her journals in cursive this year. What a beautiful job she is doing! The hardest for Rose has been remembering how to form the letters as she is writing. For now, everything else is printing, but I hope to slowly transfer her into all cursive.
We also had a few visitors this week…
This is Ebi the Panda. She was reading Frog and Toad
Yes, this is a Bomb Bird and a Bad Piggie…don’t judge!
And our last visitor was Zoe, our sweet kitty! Beth in particular loves her!
I hope you had a wonderful week as well! Be on the lookout for some great giveaways over the next couple of weeks and lots of reviews for the TOS Review Crew! We have been enjoying lots of great products and you’re going to enjoy taking a peek into what we’ve had to try out new!

Week in Review: January 21-25

This was our last week of being off schedule! I’m extremely ready to get everyone back on track. Our family has been off routine for much too long. I can’t wait to start back with Heart of Dakota again next week. I’ve really missed the structure of our regular days.

Just because we’re not having our regular school doesn’t mean we aren’t learning! Rose received Word Rummy for Christmas and we had a good time playing this game! Not only did she and Beth practice their spelling and learned a few new words, Rose also practiced her addition by adding up everyone’s scores! It was good for her to feel confident in adding the scores because she is less confident in math.
To improve geography skills we played Ticket to Ride. This is currently one of our favorites! Rose really loves this game and I think it’s a great way for her to work on map skills as well as strategies on how to get the different cities to connect.
One last game we played was Lego Creation. I’m not sure what category Lego’s fit into, but Grace really enjoyed finding matching pieces and then building the design. I have since learned this game is not available anymore to purchase and am thrilled that my in-laws found it at a yard sale!
Before we left Florida a good friend gave us a tour of the Hollywood Fire Department! Click the picture to read all about our fabulous trip!
Okay…so there really wasn’t anything educational about our trip to Dairy Queen, but boy was it yummy!
Because of bad weather headed our way at home we had to cut our trip short, but when we got home we were greeted with some wintry weather. I would have loved more snow rather than ice, but the girls had a great time with our neighbors.
Yay for a much needed break, and double yay for being back on routine next week!
Now if I can just get the house back in order from being off routine…

Week in Review: January 14-18

This week can be described as…learning through experience! We tagged along with my husband to a conference at Hilton Head, South Carolina last week. Such a hardship, right?!? Our family had a great time! We always like to try to find new experiences for the girls whenever we travel and seek out kid-friendly sites, museums, and activities. While there wasn’t any formal book-learning, I would say there was a large amount of experiential learning this week!

Considering we were only visiting for about a day and a half we managed to squeeze in quite a bit of fun! Here is a peek from all of our fun…

This small museum is packed with educational fun for the entire family!
Since our homeschool is Lighthouse Christian Academy I like to take the girls to any lighthouses we come close to in our travels!
I was so excited to hear my Rose teaching her sisters about the shore because of what she learned from science this year with Heart of Dakota!

Week in Review: January 7-11

Don’t miss out on your chance to win a year membership to either Clever Dragons or Always Ice Cream! The giveaways ends Sunday night, so make sure you enter and spread the word!

This week was more of the same as last since recuperating is taking longer than I imagined. I’m still taking it easy, but I’ve been able to be involved in more of the girls’ normal routines for meals and bedtime and it has been wonderful. Grace asks me multiple times a day if I’m all better yet and Beth has decided she’s going to be a nurse! This long journey has helped me appreciate many things. You can read about this on my devotional blog, Vintage Womanhood.

Rose and I started back at Deerstream Learning Center. She was glad to be back and is very excited to be learning about Canada!

I didn’t take time to take many pictures, but I did snap one which exemplifies what school has looked like the last two weeks!

We aren’t back to using our curriculum as we typically do, but have continued with math, handwriting, literature and critical thinking.
Confession: It is difficult for me to be off routine.
I can tend to be rather scatter brained and need structure so I can maintain order between school and home. One of the many things this season has taught me is God is in charge of my plans, not me. It is completely appropriate to make plans and prepare for the future. However there must be a balance between those plans and the understanding that at a moment’s notice those plans may have to be tossed to the side.
I’m looking forward to being back on full routine again in a few weeks, but I am doing my best to live in the moment and appreciate these less hectic days with my girls.
I hope your week was fabulous!

Weekly Review: January 2-4

School started again for us this week. I hadn’t anticipated beginning again because we were supposed to still be on vacation, but our plans were changed this Christmas. Since our trip has been postponed and the girls were starting to get a little antsy due to our disrupted holiday, I decided starting school modified would be a good idea.

I’m still restricted because of my surgery so we opted to school in the living room this week rather than the school room. The girls couldn’t believe I let them work on the floor! I know for many of you this is normal, but unless we are doing an activity school has always happened at a table. School on the floor was an unfamiliar idea!
Bigger Hearts for His Glory: Bare Bones
We are waiting to start back with history until things are back to normal. For now Rose is working on handwriting, math, grammar, and literature. She was very excited to finish her first cursive handwriting book this week and will continue with her new book next week! She also started reading a Richard Peck novel called Secrets at Sea, a Christmas gift from her great grandparents and has really enjoyed that.

Little Hearts for His Glory: Bare Bones
Beth has been working on math, handwriting, reading, Thinking Skills, and the H Rod and Staff workbook. She continues to do really well with both math and reading. The only struggle were having is with self-control. When she can’t do something write she immediately scribbles all over the page or rips it. I remember her older sister going through the same thing at this age, but she would just refuse to work or start crying. It’s a phase we’ll get through just like everything else!
Little Hands to Heaven: Bare Bones
Grace has had the hardest time adjusting to my unexpected stay in the hospital. We’ve been reading lots of books, coloring, and cuddling a whole bunch! Grace’s grandparents bought her a Hotch Potch doll from Colonial Williamsburg for Christmas. This is a replica of an old fashioned doll used to help children learn their letters. You can bend the doll to form letters as seen on a set of cards. She really liked this doll and it’s been fun for me to make the letter shapes and have her guess them!

We’ll be doing school like this for a few weeks while I am recuperating. I hope to add in a few more things next week like spelling. Besides school we’ve also been having fun with art and playing games! The girls enjoyed drawing with their new chalk on black construction paper. It was raining and they wanted so badly to use it. This was a great alternative!

We’ve also have a couple of slumber parties in the school room! There is nothing sweeter to me than my girls bonding as friends and sisters!
Have a great weekend!

Christmas in Review

Christmas was…memorable. I wrote previously about God changing my plans. Little did I know there would be a much bigger change of plans just a few days after I wrote that! After being sick for several days I was diagnosed and medicated, but after about 5 days on the new medication it became apparent something more was going on. I ended up in the emergency room the Friday before Christmas.

On Saturday before Christmas…the day I had planned to bake, wrap presents, and pack for our vacation…I had a three-hour surgery. Not what I would have chosen…yet…God is good. The doctors removed a benign tumor which they think has been growing for 3-4 years. My parents, who live close by, were able to keep my sweet girls for the week and my husband has coddled and nursed me back to health.

It has been an exercise of faith for me. I feel I am very grounded in Scripture and know in my head the promises God has given us, but experiencing them first-hand this Christmas has brought me closer to my Savior. His grace has surrounded my family in ways I’ve never experienced before.

Even though I couldn’t be with my girls on Christmas Eve, their grandparents kept alive our tradition of cookies out for Santa.

They also continued our tradition of retelling the Christmas story before opening presents. Both traditions have occurred every year, and having my parents be so thoughtful to keep things as normal as possible for my girls was such a blessing to me.

The hospital staff were so kind and excited about having my girls come see me on Christmas day! They spent time talking to them and letting them know Mommy was going to be just fine.

Thanks to technology, we all got to chat with my in-laws via Skype on Christmas day!

Our church family, my piano families, and my MOPs family have provided so much food, including the mild diet I’ve been on. It just keeps coming! The have ministered to us sacrificially and have taken time from their holiday celebrations to come and visit with us as well.

These are not Christmas memories I would have chosen to have, but they have been some of the best. God’s faithfulness and grace to our family has overwhelmed me.

We started school back today…modified anyway. I’m still limited in what I can do so I sit on the couch with the girls at my feet working on math, handwriting, and literature. They have had their lives disrupted quite a bit the last few weeks, but they have been so sweet and helpful.

This year I experienced Emmanuel as I never have before.

Emmanuel…

God with us…
God with me.

Weekly Review: December 3-7

We had quite an eventful week. We managed to finish up our last week of homeschool well in between family pictures, lots of meetings at church, getting my piano students ready for their recital next week, and still battling this horrible cold! Whatever is going around is finally leaving our house, thank goodness! If you want to take a peak at our family’s photo shoot click the picture to the right. We had such a great time and my favorite part was my girls wearing old fashioned dresses that use to be mine.

There is still time to enter the Grapevine Bible Studies Giveaway! Even if you are happy with your Bible curriculum, take a moment to check this out. It’s a fabulous way to to Bible study with kids in such a different way than I have ever seen! This engaging Bible study series really grabbed my in-church-since-birth girls’ attention.
I also completed my very first review as part of The Old Schoolhouse Review Crew! Take a peak to see what great resource we reviewed. It’s an amazing online resource updated daily. Every time I visit the site I find something new! Click the picture below to read my full review.
This was our last week of school before our Christmas break. The girls have had a really hard time focusing since our houseful at Thanksgiving. I’ve been told this is the typical mid-year-slump fitted neatly in between two fun holidays. I remember this from my full-time middle school teaching days, but honestly had forgotten about it. Last year was a little different as our first year of homeschooling. My daughter and I were still figuring things out and since we started homeschooling part way through the year it didn’t feel like mid-year to us. Through it all we managed nicely this week and I feel that we finished well!
Little Hands to Heaven: Unit 10
Grace was very happy with me this week. I’d taken a couple of weeks off from her regular curriculum in order to focus more on a couple of areas with my older girls and she made it very clear that she was displeased. This week we studied Gideon, Samson, and Ruth. As usual, the Bible story was her favorite part each day! She also really liked the finger-play letter poem this week for the letter I. She learned that, “Nothings is i-i-i-impossible for God to do!” I’ve been pleasantly surprised how much she remembers from week-to-week. She can consistently tell you the sounds each letter makes. Every once in a while she forgets, but when I remind her of the finger-play motion she immediately remembers!
She also enjoyed reading her Poingo books with her reading pen. Grace’s favorite discovery was the classical music she could hear on one page that matched a pre-recorded piece on our Clavinova piano. She was so excited and told us all multiple times that it was just like the piano. Grace plays with her Poingo books very sweetly while I teach the other girls…some of the time. Other times she has been intentionally trying to distract all of us and pay attention to her! The trouble is she is so cute and my girls are easily entertained by one another. She wants more and more lessons and still gets very frustrated with me when I am trying to train her to patiently wait. It is a process and hopefully it will get easier in the next few months!
Something Grace loves to do is cut. Her grandparents bought her a cutting book by Kumon that she can’t get enough of! We’re bought her another one for Christmas and I know she’s going to be over the moon about it! By the way, what is it about this age and rubbing her head on everything? My funny little Grace rubs her head on me, the furniture, her animals, whatever. She’s not itching, she just likes rubbing her hair. Her pictures are usually with tousled hair which I find adorable, but I’m just wondering where she picked this habit up from. She’ll even tousle it herself as soon as I’m done brushing it!
Little Hearts for His Glory: Unit 16
Beth learned about Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection this week. This is a very familiar story to her since she has been in church since she was an infant. I’m glad she doesn’t get tired of hearing it! We should daily remind ourselves of the sacrifice God made through his Son, Jesus. For my girls this is just something they have always known. I’ll never forget hearing my husband tell my girls the day they were born that Jesus loved them so much that He died to save them, then singing Jesus Loves Me.
Beth continues to enjoy spelling and does so well with our All About Spelling curriculum. I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to start this in Kindergarten, but for Beth it has been great. I like that she’s now learning how to write sentences as part of the curriculum. It has been a great followup to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. You can see her here segmenting words into their sounds. It has continue to strengthen her reading skills in addition to teach her the foundations of spelling.
Beth is our silly girl. She loves to spin a good story and make us all laugh. Most of the time my girls look very studious in their pictures…and I’ll admit that I’m blessed in that they are very easy to teach! On this day Beth was very wiggly and was excited to take a silly picture after her working picture!
Bigger Hearts for His Glory: Unit 17
After I realized Rose was ready to work full-speed through her curriculum this year I had the goad to finish Unit 17 by Christmas. We did it! She has loved learning about early American history and this week we studied Daniel Boone. She particularly likes Stories of Great Americans by Edward Eggleston. It is an older book, but very readable for her. These stories are intended to be read aloud, but since she is reading several grade levels above what I expect she enjoys reading this on her own.
Rose also learned carry subtraction this week! I was nervous teaching it because although I understand these math concepts I’m not always the best at explaining them. I did a couple of practice problems on the board, explaining along the way, then she did a couple on her own. She confidently completed all the problems in her book without a problem. I’m so proud of her!

She will soon complete her cursive handwriting book. She is not yet able to comfortable in cursive for all of her assignments so I’m going to have her work in the next book when she finished after the Christmas break. She is doing well with letter formation and I want her to feel confident as she transitions into entirely writing in cursive. I really like A Reason for Handwriting because the lessons are so short, yet have taught her cursive so well!

This picture is for anyone wondering how our school room looks while we’re doing lessons…
As you can see, we like to spread out!
I hope you all had a great week as well! I’ll still be posting our weeks in review, but they will be filled with all the fun stuff I hope we get to do!

Week in Review: November 26-30

I can’t believe November is gone! Now that Christmas is here don’t miss out on the chance to win the Birth of Jesus Grapevine Bible Study!!! You can check out my review of this Bible study here. I think you’ll really like what you see.

Our week was…completed. There is something about this time of year that makes it hard to get through school. I remember this same feeling of a slump when I was teaching full-time just after we got married. I don’t think it helped to have all of the previous week off from everything. There is nothing like a week without routine to make getting back into routine feel rather blah. Yet, we made it through, the girls learned, and they completed their work well.

Little Hands to Heaven: Week Off

I decided to give Grace another week off since it was clear that this wouldn’t be the easiest to get through. She spent her time practicing (or rather pretending to practice) piano…

…and helping her sisters complete their lessons.

She didn’t seem to mind the week off until Saturday when she begged for lesson time. We opted for a trip to visit Santa Cow instead!

Little Hands for His Glory: Unit 15

Beth almost always wants to do her math first. She jumps right in and doesn’t like to wait for directions. For now it’s not a problem because it is very self-explanatory and she isn’t learning new concepts, but I’m trying to train her to wait so that she doesn’t get frustrated as her work gets harder.

She really likes spelling and especially writing down the words. She continues to amaze herself at being able to spell as well as she does. It’s a lot of fun to see the wonderment when she realizes she gets it right!

Do you notice her choice of colors for clothing this week? My Beth is all about dressing for the holiday! Her Santa skirt is her favorite thing right now!

Bigger Hearts for His Glory; Unit 16
I decided not to go back and do the units I accidentally skipped. There were some fun activities I may want to revisit, but for now we’re just going to forge ahead.

We began a unit on The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe for literature. Rose is extremely excited to study this book. We’re taking it slowly, although she’s begging to read ahead. We’re exploring the elements of literature including character, setting, plot, and conflict. It is pure joy for me to see her devour books like she does!

This week she also learned which states made up the 13 colonies, where they are located, and their abbreviations. She’ll eventually learn this information for all the states, but this was a fun geography lesson. She liked being quizzed on them after we learned them.

Overall we had a good week even if it wasn’t as exciting as most. I have a new camera now after finding out that it would cost as much to fix the old one as it did to buy a new one. I wasn’t excited about that, but I do like the compact nature of the new camera.

We have one more week of school before taking a break for the winter. I’m hoping to make next week exciting for the girls. We decorated for Christmas this year late, but it finally got done! We are typically decorating the first week of November, a tradition we started when we were living in Florida. We’re not complete done, but there is a fairly heavy dose of Christmas in our house now!

Weekly Review: November 19-23

We took Thanksgiving week off from school, but we had too much fun not to share what we did!

My husband’s family came to stay with us at the end of the week. We had 13 extra people at one time or another! It was great to spend time with our family.

Even without school the girls still enjoyed learning! Beth and her cousin are identifying different birds and leaves they found in the back yard.

There was lots of game playing…

…and even some song writing!

My husband and his brother ran a marathon close to our house. They made their own course because they are both pastors and couldn’t find one to run in that wasn’t on a Sunday this fall! They were AMAZING!

For Matt, my brother-in-law, this was his second time running a marathon. He finished in under four hours!

This was my husband’s first and finished at just over four hours!

Both times are even more impressive when you factor in that both of these guys were battling colds and not at 100%. Way to go guys!

The kids really enjoyed cheering them on!

Dan the Animal Man came for a special service at our church. I wasn’t super excited about touching the alligator, but I did it anyway! We really learned some cool things about God’s creation from his presentation!

Check out his website for more information. He is from North Carolina, but travels all over the United States.

We celebrated Thanksgiving twice…and both times were delicious! We spent time with my parents and enjoyed my mom’s AMAZING cooking! I’m trying to convince her to start a recipe blog. She is such an awesome cook! The girls always love helping her too.

Here is Grace keeping an eye on the Turkeys for her.

On Thanksgiving Day we traveled to Maryland to be with my husband’s side of the family. This is the first whole family reunion that has happened since all of the grandkids got married and had kids of their own. We had 48 people for Thanksgiving dinner! And as you can see we’re just a tiny bit partial to the Washington Redskins. It was quite a treat to see them beat the Cowboys!

So that was our crazy-busy week off from school. I hope you all had equally exciting celebrations!
